I think I need to report what happened today.
I heard the Friday 13th story before
(originated from the last supper of the Christianity).
Don't know if everything was just a coincidence or whatsoever,
But bad luck was with me the whole day.

Starting from the beginning,
when I realized that today is the Black Friday,
Although I am not a Christian,
I had this strange feeling that something unusual might happen.

Alright, the morning was fine when I drove to Detroit with my mom
(if we ignored those major car crashes we passed by).
We finally got to the Canadian counselor at the last minute before it closed,
and successfully got my mom the temporary resident visa for traveling.
Not bad!

So we felt quite relaxed because now I could start to plan our Calgary trip.
Later on mom wanted to go to “the Earle”, an upscale French restaurant
here in Ann Arbor, for a happy hour meal.
She still remembered how scrumptious the white wine steamed mussels tasted.
Soon I took her there, settled ourselves in the dark but cozy environment.
Ordered two plates of steamed mussels as our starters, and waited for the beer to arrive.

We were just talking and laughing like crazy.
Suddenly I heard this high-pitched screaming from other tables
and started to smell something burned badly.
The only thing was that it’s not the food that was burn,
It’s actually my HAIR that was creating a lot of white smoke and
IT SMELLED REALLY BAD.

Then we realized what had happened.
A waiter behind me was changing this candle light,
and he carelessly dumped this candle light (still on fire) on my hair.
Luckily he only burned the bottom half of my hair so there was no further damage.
The accidence formed turbulence in the restaurant
and people were gathering around our table.

The manager was totally shocked and said that nothing like this
had ever happened before.
He apologized many times and promised to reimburse the whole damage
(my hair, my sweaters, and my coat).
Well, things were not totally ridiculous I guess,
at least we earned a free meal.

Mom and I re-organize our mood and still stayed there until we finished our meal.
To be honest,
I wasn’t upset or mad at all,
I just felt everything was like a joke, so unrealistic.
Later we went to a salon nearby and had my damaged hair cut.
The new hair style was okay, I’ll have to wait until I go back to Taiwan to fix it.

Anyways,
After we went home at around 10pm,
I remembered I got to bake this crispy almond cookie for mom.
This recipe was fairly simple and I’ve never failed before.
Oddly, after 10 minutes of baking (the right amount of time),
I found half of the cookies were burned,
Terrible terrible~

We finished today by having mom knocking my forehead to get rid of the bad luck
(from the Chinese old saying).
We’ll see if it works or not.
Right now, I just want to have a good night sleep and
start a brand new day tomorrow.

Bye Bye Friday 13th.
